Bourbon & Birdies outreach
In addition to the Florida Legacy Print Series, I am constantly looking for ways to promote ecological conservation, support educational resources related to environmental issues, and give back to the community and organizations that are dedicated to protecting and preserving the beautiful state of Florida. Here are some of the things Bourbon & Birdies has done.
Drain the barrel sale
In December 2016, Bourbon & Birdies held a sale of all leftover inventory and donated the proceeds to the Florida Conservation Voters. From their website: "We elect conservation leaders to public office. We aim to become the state’s leading non-partisan political voice for protecting Florida’s environment. We will elect, educate, and hold elected officials accountable for their conservation and environmental policy votes through a multi-pronged approach, including elections, legal action, voter outreach, grassroots activism, and lobbying."
St. Francis Wildlife Association Partnership
In January 2017, Bourbon & Birdies donated 25 prints of Rudy the Red-shouldered hawk, raising $625 for St. Francis Wildlife Association. In 2018, Bourbon & Birdies provided St. Francis with the images of the red-shouldered hawk and eastern screech owl paintings to be featured in St. Francis' 40th Anniversary Gala. St. Francis is located outside of Tallahassee and provides rehabilitative services for injured and sick wildlife, including birds of prey. St. Francis also has a strong educational component, teaching the community about wildlife.
In 2017 and 2018, Bourbon & Birdies donated original paintings to be auctioned at the Kate Ireland Memorial Dinner and Auction benefiting Tall Timbers. Tall Timbers fosters exemplary land stewardship through research, conservation and education and does extensive research on native bird populations like the northern bobwhite and brown nuthatch.
