Florida is covered in water. We have endless wetlands, marshes, lakes, springs, and rivers. These ecosystems support a variety of wildlife, including some of the state's more memorable birds. Some common birds seen on or near the water include the long-legged herons and egrets.
I love spending time on the river watching these birds carefully pick their way through vegetation, constantly scanning the shallows for their next snack. They can be still, almost statuesque, for seemingly forever- and then an explosion of movement, and a fish in their bill.
Water birds have wonderfully serene and wild personalities. I try to capture this in every painting I complete.
